Man City ready to smash British transfer record for English superstar
According to the Daily Mail, Premier League champions Manchester City want to make Aston Villa star Jack Grealish English football’s first £100m star.
Jack Grealish, 25, has been Aston Villa’s standout performer since the Midlands club achieved Premier League promotion in 2019. He enjoyed a fantastic 2020/21 campaign with the Villans, scoring six goals and providing 12 assists in 26 games.

A shinbone injury sustained in the 2-1 defeat to Leicester City in February kept him out of action for nearly three months. Jack Grealish made his long return from injury as a substitute in the 0-0 draw with Everton at Villa Park.
The creative midfielder started the final two games of the past season and helped his boyhood club clinch an 11th-place finish with wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea respectively.
Grealish’s sizzling form for both club and country saw him being rewarded with a lucrative contract at Villa Park last September. The 25-year-old still has four years left on his new deal, which gives Dean Smith and Aston Villa a lot of bargaining power over any potential move which may happen.
The Daily Mail claims Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is a huge admirer of the Aston Villa skipper and remains determined to lure him away to the Etihad Stadium this summer. Valued in the region of £100 million, a deal for Grealish would see the Sky Blues smash the British transfer record.
After a substandard start to the 2020/21 campaign, Manchester City gathered enough momentum before running away with the Premier League title. This is City’s third league title in the last four seasons, which documents the work put behind by Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff.
Despite having a richly assembled squad that has the potential to complete an unprecedented treble with a win over Chelsea in the Champions League final, Guardiola seemingly isn’t resting on his laurels and wants to strengthen his squad further. The Spanish tactician has made Grealish his midfield’s topmost summer target and for all right reasons.
Grealish is one of the nation’s most exciting creative players and has done enough at Aston Villa to suggest he’s ready to play for a bigger Premier League club. The England international seems to have certain qualities that make him a perfect fit at City under Guardiola, and at 25, he still has his best years ahead of him.
Suffice to say, Grealish boasts of decent top-flight experience and has the ‘X’ Factor in his game to come through the door at the Etihad Stadium as a marquee signing in the summer. However, it remains to be seen whether a deal for the Aston Villa midfield ace will be direct cash or involves swapping players, the report adds.
