Manchester City monitoring Borussia Monchengladbach star
According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, Premier League champions Manchester City are keeping tabs on Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria ahead of the summer transfer window.
Denis Zakaria, 24, one of the exciting midfield prospects across Europe, missed the start of the recently concluded Bundesliga campaign due to a serious knee injury. After gaining full fitness in November, however; he delivered some solid performances for Borussia Monchengladbach, contributing with a goal and an assist in 32 games across all competitions, some of which came as a central defender.

The Switzerland international has a contract at Borussia Park until the summer of 2022 and it’s believed that the Bundesliga club could sell him this summer if they receive around £35m, the Manchester Evening News adds.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will certainly be delighted with the latest developments surrounding Fernandinho, with the Times claiming the veteran Brazilian has agreed on a one-year contract extension with the Mancunian club.
Fernandinho, 36, became City’s captain after the departure of David Silva in the summer and has led Pep Guardiola’s team well—both on and off the pitch.
The defensive midfielder, who is in his eighth season at the Etihad Stadium after joining from Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk, was set to be out of contract next month.
However, the Brazilian’s decision to extend his stay at Manchester City for another season should come as a big boost to Guardiola’s squad. Fernandinho has been a consistent performer under Guardiola, essaying a key role in the team with his superb passing ability and interception skills, something replicated by many now from the defensive midfield position.
Regardless of the 36-year-old all but looks set to stay at the club, the Manchester Evening News suggests City are in the transfer market for Fernandinho’s long-term replacement and a player like Denis Zakaria fits the billing perfectly.
Zakaria’s performances for Borussia Monchengladbach over the last few years suggest that he could be an amazing signing for the Sky Blues. The Swiss’ defensive acumen and ability on the ball, whilst strength and power would make him an ideal fit in the fast-paced nature of Premier League football.
All in all, the 24-year-old has the required qualities to be Fernandinho’s long-term replacement at City. Rumoured to be available at around £35m, Zakaria would be an absolute snip if City manages to pull off this deal.
