Manchester City inquire about Brighton’s midfield general
According to a report from the Sunday Times, Manchester City are one of the few European clubs to have inquired about the possibility of signing Brighton star Yves Bissouma.
Yves Bissouma, 24, joined Brighton from French club LOSC Lille in the summer of 2018 and has racked up 94 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals. The Malian international has been one of the shining lights in an otherwise disappointing campaign for the Seagulls, who currently lie 15th in the table after 35 games.

The 24-year-old has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most talented box-to-box- midfielders this campaign, scoring a goal in 33 appearances.
However, Yves Bissouma’s impressive performances at the heart of the Graham Potter-managed side’s midfield hasn’t gone unnoticed, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Lyon keen to secure his signature this summer, the report adds.
As far as Manchester City are concerned, they could lose Fernandinho, who is set to become a free agent upon the expiry of his contract at the Etihad Stadium in June. As a result, the 36-year-old Brazilian’s future remains up in the air.
A vocal leader on and off the pitch, Fernandinho has served Manchester City very well and is still going strong even at the ripe age of 36. The wily defensive midfielder has been asked to do the job in many big games this season, recently against Paris Saint-Germain, where he put in a strong show in the 2-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium that sealed City’s spot in the Champions League final.
With the veteran Brazilian looking likely to move on for pastures new in the summer, Pep Guardiola should prioritise signing a replacement in the upcoming transfer window. Rodri has done admirably well at the Mancunian club since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2019, but he needs cover and competition for next season.
That’s when City’s links with Yves Bissouma makes sense. Bissouma has been a consistent performer for Brighton, playing 33 league games across the board this season, and seems to have a bright future. Although he’ll not be considered a like-for-like replacement for Fernandinho, the Malian international does share a lot of attributes with City’s Brazilian.
As per the Daily Star, Brighton value Bissouma at £30 million, and for a Premier League proven talent with the potential to develop in the coming years, it could be a snip for Manchester City. Thus, it is easy to see why the Sky Blues would be keen on the Seagulls star.
