It was previously assumed that the deal was almost done and dusted and the La Masia product would soon be returning to Spain but it seems there’s a twist in the tale.
Eric Garcia ‘cautious’ before making his next move
The Spaniard defender has been mooted to be looking for a move away from the Etihad for some time now. His lack of appearances for Manchester City have irked Garcia and as such he was looking to engineer a reunion with his boyhood club FC Barcelona.
The 20-year-old’s contract expires in the summer and he was supposedly inching closer to join the Blaugrana as a free agent.
As per the latest reports from Sport Witness, talks are currently ongoing between the two parties, however, Garcia is exercising ‘caution’ as he wants to feel valued at his new club.
The dialogue between Garcia’s representatives and Barcelona is set to continue, however, the move is not ‘completed’ as previously reported by the Catalan media. There are still two months remaining on the player’s contract and therefore it would be dicey to see how this situation unfolds.
For the unversed, Eric Garcia joined Manchester City in 2017 after breaking through at Barcelona’s famed La Masia. With first-team action seemingly hard to come by, the Spaniard decided to head to England, however, his career hasn’t taken off so far.
The young defender has only played for the senior team 33 times across all competitions to date, with 10 of them coming this season. Clearly, Garcia’s career has stalled and it seems like he will leave the Etihad, sooner or later.
Moreover, as Ruben Dias and John Stones’ revitalized partnership continues to thrive, it would be hard to imagine the youngster doing a U-turn and extend his stay in Manchester.
