Madrid correspondent Sergio Gonzales understands that Lionel Messi could well end up choosing Manchester City over a reunion with his former teammate in Neymar at Paris Saint-Germain and an extended stay at the Camp Nou.

More from Man City Transfer Rumors

The 33-year-old, as of now, is free to negotiate with a club of his choice to finalize his pre-transfer agreement but the Blaugrana skipper has insisted that he will only take a decision on his future at the end of the season. Having said that, the club presidential elections are coming up and it is highly unlikely that the Argentine ace would take a decision before hearing out the new president.

Rumors linking Messi with a move away from Camp Nou have started to burn brighter since Paris Saint-Germain and Kylian Mbappe destroyed Barcelona at the Camp Nou earlier this week. With the final scoreline at the end of the first leg being 4-1 in favor of Paris, it is highly unlikely that Barcelona will replicate the miraculous comeback against the very same opponents four years ago.

One of the driving reasons behind Messi’s desire to leave Barcelona is that Barcelona have suffered humiliating exits in the recent past and could be seen hitting an all-time low with a RO16 exit this time around.

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are said to be the only two clubs that could house Messi’s mammoth wages, though the value of his contract is set to decrease, should he leave Barcelona. Having said that, based on current form, Manchester City do appear to be one of the strongest teams in Europe at the moment, if not the strongest.

The 33-year-old has reiterated that he wants a winning project, something that is becoming tough to find at Barcelona off-late. The Blaugrana looks set for another trophy-less season. In light of that, the Cityzens have been absolutely dominating the Premier League after a slow start and are now 10 points clear of second-placed Manchester United. A quadruple for the Sky Blues is very much on the cards and they are in contention for the UEFA Champions League title.

In other words, the 33-year-old has got a much better chance of finishing his career off with a flurry of titles while playing against some of the very best opponents at Manchester City as compared to playing at Paris Saint-Germain.
