For the past few months, Messi has been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou and Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City have been the leaders in the race to sign the Argentine for free. The two financial powerhouses are the only clubs apart from Barcelona that can afford Messi’s mammoth wages and the 33-year-old has been linked with either of them for various reasons.
Coming to Paris Saint-Germain, the Parisians managed to reach the final of the UEFA Champions League last time around before falling narrowly short by a margin of 1-0 against the eventual title winners in Bayern Munich. Neymar, a former Barcelona player is on amicable terms with Messi and the duo wreaked havoc when the Brazilian was still playing at Camp Nou. There was Suarez, of course, but the duo of Messi and Neymar is tried and tested and the Blaugrana skipper might be tempted to have another shot at the bird.
Manchester City, on the other hand, have got Pep Guardiola, the manager under which Lionel Messi played some of his best football while winning 14 titles during the Spaniard’s stint at the club. After submitting the Burofax, in an interview, the Argentine revealed that he wants a winning project and there is no better club than Manchester City at the moment and a quadruple is very much on the cards for the former Premier League Champions. While both, PSG and the Cityzens are yet to taste Champions League success, having Messi in their ranks itself could make them a very serious contender for the coveted title.
Speaking about Messi, Guardiola said:
"“We don’t have a single player who can win a game, we don’t have a Cristiano, a Messi, a Neymar,” said Guardiola. We don’t have these types of players who can win games by themselves. I told the players many times, you have to play as a team.I will be honest. I’d like to have a player to score, every single game, four goals and run like these players can run. I would love it.But I will not change any player we have right now, this season. All of them have shown in the bad moments. The big teams, the big players show it in the bad moments. In the good moments everyone is easy to play.”Source: Mirror"
With the summer window fast approaching and the 33-year-old insisting that he would take a decision on his future only at the end of this season, things could take a pretty interesting turn if he does decide to leave Barceona. At the moment though, the Argentine ace is back to playing his best football and is just one goal away from becoming the top scorer in the La Liga.
