Aymeric Laporte has fallen out of favor at the Etihad Stadium this season with manager Pep Guardiola preferring the hot-duo of John Stones and Ruben Dias. Ruben Dias has been an integral part of this new-look City defense and Manchester City are at the top of the table mainly because they have kept clean sheets on a regular basis. Not to forget, the former Premier League champions boast of the best defensive record this season. In the light of that, Four Four Two understands that Aymeric Laporte is being eyed by Real Madrid for a summer transfer.

More from Man City Transfer Rumors

The Los Blancos haven’t been doing so well defensively this season and their skipper Sergio Ramos is linked with a move away from the club, to Paris Saint-Germain. It is believed that Ramos has a set of contract demands that Real Madrid aren’t willing to fulfill. Another logical reason behind the La Liga champions’ interest in Laporte is the fact that he is a former Athletic Bilbao defender and has got experience of playing in Spain.

The Frenchman has made only eight appearances this season but it remains to be seen Pep thinks that the 26-year-old deserves another chance. Moreover, the rumored deal would depend a lot on Ramos’ contract situation. Though there isn’t an agreement between the Spaniard and the club at the moment, it is highly likely that Ramos would end up staying at Real Madrid.

Having said that, Manchester City would most likely be open to the sale of Laporte but would be expecting a fee in the range of £60 million, the price at which they bought him in 2018.

Despite the fact that the former Premier League champions boast of a wealthy bank account, they will need funds to complete some of the major transfer that they have been eyeing for a while.

Erling Haaland has been linked with a move to Manchester City and is believed to be the ideal replacement for Sergio Aguero, who is himself linked with a move to Barcelona at the end of the season. The 32-year-old is in the final year of his contract and it remains to be seen if he ends up staying at the club for another season. There have been no indications of a contract renewal for the Cityzens’ record goal-scorer yet but things can change any time.
