Having spent over 10 years at Bayern Munich, it seems that the time at the Allianz Arena for David Alaba is finally over. The 28-year-old has failed to reach an agreement with his club over a new contract as the Champions League winners are unwilling to meet his wage demands. Consequently, Alaba, one of the best defenders in the world, is linked with a number of clubs including Manchester City. Real Madrid are currently leading the race to sign the defender for free at the end of this season and are set to offer €11 million as wages to the Austrian. In what appears to be the latest development in this saga, Sport Witness understands that Manchester City are ready to put a big offer on the table to lure the Bayern Munich star, beating Real Madrid in the race to sign the Austrian.

Manchester City are ready to offer €15 million to the defender, a number that he wanted to reach at Bayern.

Alaba is UEFA Champions League winner and has won the Bundesliga a splendid nine times in his career and the Champions League two times in 2013 and 2020. Having said that, it is having said that, it is highly unlikely that finding a winning project would be the topmost priority for him. This is where the financial aspect of the player’s contract comes into play.

Alaba has evolved into one of the world’s best players and one of the most versatile backline defenders. Manchester City are currently looking like the side to beat in Europe and a quadruple is very much on the cards for the former Premier League champions.

It is not going to be easy for City to land Alaba as Real Madrid is said to be his “dream”. With the financial resources that the Cityzens have got, they can afford to shell out €15 million/year wages for the 28-year-old but it is highly unlikely that Real Madrid would want to match that figure.

The defense of the Sky Blues has been rock-solid this season. Ruben Dias and John Stones have transformed that defence while Joao Cancelo is thriving in his role. The Portuguese has been handed a lot more attacking freedom this season by Pep Guardiola.

It is the position of the left-back, however, that is pointing the Cityzens towards Alaba, who can play anywhere on the backline. Benjamin Mendy was supposed to consolidate his position in the XI but recurrent injuries and poor form have stopped him from doing so.

With the summer window fast approaching, do you think Manchester City will beat Real Madrid in securing David Alaba’s signature?
