Manchester City has looked rock-solid this season. While the attack was slow to catch on initially, the defense has been absolutely outstanding and it is fair to assume that City have got the best defense this season, in Europe. Having said that, Guardiola has missed the services of his two key strikers in Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus for the most part of the season. Aguero’s last 18 months at the Etihad has been hampered by injuries, and now, illness. Gabriel Jesus also tested positive for COVID-19 in the initial stages of the season but is now back. The 23-year-old however, has only managed to find the net four times this season thus pointing Guardiola toward buying another striker in the summer window. Having said that, Daily Mail reports that the Sky Blues are planning to launch a £100 million bid for BVB Dortmund’s Erling Braut Haaland this summer.

More from Man City Transfer Rumors

For long, Haaland has been linked with a move to Manchester City but the transfer wasn’t expected until 2022 as a rumored release clause in the 20-year-old’s contract worth £66 million would kick in then. Having said that, numerous teams are keeping a close watch on the striker from Norweigh but it seems the Cityzens have got a solution for that as well. It is highly likely that Haaland is going to be the chief target for the former Premier League champions and the likes of Manchester United, and Chelsea. To counter that, City are planning to use their financial resources by offering a bumper £400,000/week wages to the 20-year-old.

Guardiola believes that Haaland is the man to replace Sergio Aguero.

Aguero is rumored to leave at the end of this season with Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona said to be keeping a close watch on the Argentine’s situation.

Aguero is in the final year of his contract which runs out at the end of a season marred with injuries and time on the sidelines. Gabriel Jesus has failed to cash-in on his opportunity and has failed to earn Guardiola’s trust to be the marksman going forward in the future. With Haaland proving that he is ready to take on some of the big teams so early in his career, he has got the stats to prove his case. The 20-year-old has found the net 22 times this season for Dortmund from just 21 appearances. It must be mentioned that the Norweighean for injured for a brief period of time but that did not stop him from resuming his usual goal-scoring duties.

Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge was a former Sky Blues player and the CItyzens would be hoping that the presence of a former Sky Blues player alongside Haaland would play into their court.
