Manchester City started this season slowly but have now found their rhythm and are as threatening as any, at the moment. Pep Guardiola and his men created history when they got through the month of January without tasting a single defeat or a draw. This could well be the turning point of the season as the former Premier League champions are three points clear of second-placed Manchester United, with a game in hand. The whole squad has been doing well but the position of the left-back has been a constant source of worry for Pep.

The Cityzens are looking to rectify the situation before the start of the next season and are currently tracking Achraf Hakimi. The Inter Milan star has been an integral part of Antonio Conte’s set-up and is one of the brighter prospects in European football. Having said that, Goal has reported that Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea are interested in bringing the Moroccan full-back to their respective clubs and it is going to be a transfer race between the three.

Hakimi arrived from Real Madrid for a fee of £35 million. The Nerazzurri club and Real Madrid agreed on a deal on the basis that the sum would be paid in installments. With COVID-19’s heavy impact on the club’s finances, Inter are reluctant but ready to sell the prospect. A fee in the range of £35 million should do the trick.

It is believed that manager Pep Guardiola is likely to receive a £200 million war-chest for a squad revamp ahead of the next season.

Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko are the two natural left-backs in the City squad but neither of them has been able to solidify their position in the XI. Benjamin Mendy was expected to make the position his own but constant injuries coupled with poor form have meant that he has not started for the former Premier League champions more often than he has this season. Oleksandr Zinchenko is not a regular starter on the team as well. The CItyzens have been linked with another proper left-back in Renan Lodi but it remains to be seen if the Sky Blues would like to pursue Lodi or Hakimi.
