Manchester City turn down the offer to sign key Roma man
With numerous injury and illness issues plaguing Manchester City this season, one would have expected the former Premier League champions to make a few signings this winter window. Manager Pep Guardiola however, decided to surprise everyone and has refrained from using the purse. The Spaniard believes that this current set of players will be the one to see through the season for the Sky Blues. With no signings made this January, a busy summer window might be on the cards for the Cityzens. Having said that, it must be mentioned that Manchester City turned down the offer to bring back their former player in Edin Dzeko from Roma. Dzeko has been in the transfer news in the last week or so, after having a fall-out with the team manager, Paulo Fonesca, as reported by Goal.

Dzeko to Manchester City would have made sense because of the issues surrounding Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus. The Cityzens have been without the services of their two key strikers for the most part of the season owing to injury issues (Aguero) and COVID-19 (both Gabriel Jesus and Aguero have been infected by the virus). A few weeks back, before Manchester City embarked on this winning run, goals weren’t coming and questions were being raised. The team has found its rhythm, however, and now almost the entire team is contributing and the 5-0 win over West Bromwich Albion is a testament to the fact.
Gabriel Jesus was expected to be the one to take over the goal-scoring duties from Sergio Aguero but the Brazilian’s timid display this season has raised questions over his possible inability to match Aguero’s consistency and his numbers.
Having said that, it is highly unlikely that we are going to see Dzeko play at the Etihad Stadium once again but that is the least of the issues at Manchester City. Sergio Aguero is in the final year of his contract and he will walk out as a free agent after this season, if the player does not decide to renew his contract or if the club does not decide to offer him a new contract. Aguero’s injury issues over the past 18 months have been getting him in the way of him and a possible retirement at the Etihad Stadium and which is why it is believable that City’s most successful player of all time might well be on his way out of the club.
On-field performances from the Cityzens have been absolutely brilliant this season but the former Premier League champions need to act fast if they have any desire to keep Aguero with them for at least another season. This is because the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are closely monitoring the situation and could be ready to move in for the player at any time, largely because it is going to be a free transfer.
