Manchester City decide against signing their top target for the sunmer
Sergio Ramos has been heavily linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of this season with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City lurking in the background.
Manchester City and PSG are the two teams that Ramos has been linked with. The 35-year-old is in the final year of his contract and hasn’t been able to find a common ground with Real Madrid yet, for the renewal of his contract. It is believed that the Los Blancos aren’t willing to match the Spaniard’s wage demands and are offering only a one-year extension as opposed to the player’s demand for a two-year extension. While Manchester City are firmly confident about being able to afford Ramos’ wage demands, the Cityzens have decided that they do not need another center-back at the moment and are unwilling to sign Sergio Ramos, as per Martin Blackburn of the Sun.

Manchester City have had minimal problems this season, at least when it comes to the defense, which has been absolutely rock-solid. The former Premier League champions boast of the best defensive record this season and with the attack slowly getting back into form, Manchester City are on their way to becoming unstoppable. Of course, for that to happen, the defense needs to maintain the momentum and the attack needs to be consistent.
The players at the backline for the Sky Blues have been in superb form and are reading the game as well as anybody at the moment. When it comes to the center-half of the backline, Pep Guardiola has been blessed with options with the likes of Nathan Ake, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones, and Reuben Dias. Not to mention, Fernandinho can play as a center-back as well. Having said that, it would not make sense for the Cityzens to bring in another world-class defender, especially if the current crop of players are doing so well. It is highly likely that the Cityzens have decided to give it a pass when it comes to Sergio Ramos, keeping this in mind.
There is one gaping hole in the defense, however. The position of the left-back at the Etihad has been the one that has been subjected to a lot of criticism and speculation. Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko were expected to compete with each other for the position but neither of them has managed to hit the ground running. Benjamin Mendy’s recurrent injuries coupled with poor form has been a cause of worry for Pep Guardiola and Zinchenko has been linked with a move away from the club.
With the winter window nearing the end of the second week, who do you think Manchester City must sign or offload?
