Manchester City has been closely linked with Erling Braut Haaland in recent times but it seems rivals Manchester United have now entered the frame amid growing speculations about their interest in the Dortmund striker.

Erling Braut Haaland is receiving a lot of interest from many top clubs across Europe. The likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United, Juventus, and Chelsea are the clubs that are said to be interested in the 20-year-old striker from Dortmund. Manchester United are the latest entrants on that list and keeping that in mind, Erling Haaland has been advised to follow in the footsteps of former Dortmund striker, Robert Lewandowski as per the Mirror.

More from Man City Transfer Rumors

Haaland, 20, has already found the net 89 times and it is no wonder that elite clubs are after him. In light of Manchester United’s growing interest in the starlet, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke had some comments to make on his star’s future. Watzke believes that Haaland needs some time to develop and has urged the Norweigan to follow Robert Lewandowski who spent four years at the Signa Iduna Park before moving on to Bayern Munich, where he established himself as one of the World’s best strikers. Haaland most certainly has the potential to surpass Lewandowski and to rival Kylian Mbappe but it all depends on how he is handled in the next 2-3 years. Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim isn’t wrong and Haaland needs to spend at least another full season at Dortmund. Moreover, the rumored release clause in his contract gets activated in 2022 and it means that only a few clubs can afford a permanent transfer before the clause gets activated.

"Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke:“I can only advise him to do things like Robert Lewandowski.Haaland gave himself the time to mature into an absolute world-class player in Dortmund. You won’t be able to do that in a year.Because it is clear that if Erling should leave us at some point, then he will only go to an even bigger club, and so many are not considered. If you join a club like – just for an example – Real Madrid, you have to be world-class.”Source: Mirror"

Manchester City are considered to be one of the favorites to land Haaland simply because the player’s father Alf-Inge was a former Sky Blues player and Haaland, as a kid was pictured wearing a Manchester City jersey once. The thinktank at the Etihad is counting on their former player’s convincing skills to land Haaland. Apart from that, the Cityzens stand on the same level as other clubs that are might compete for Haaland.

Manchester United have got plans of their own. Their main target for the past 12 months has been Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and the player himself is eager for a move but the Red Devils’ reluctance to meet BVB’s asking price cost them the transfer in the summer window.

It is highly unlikely that the Red Devils would shell out huge sums to sign both, Sancho and Haaland. Based on their activity in the past transfer markets, it is fair to say that it is only going to be either of them. Haaland has been linked with a move to Serie A as well but it is highly unlikely to happen.
