Manchester City joined by Premier League rivals for premier striker
Erling Braut Haaland is one of the best prospects in European football if not the best. Naturally, he is the dream signing of many clubs. Manchester City are very much interested in the player.
With Sergio Aguero yet to sign a contract extension with Manchester City and with the former being 34-years-old, it is clear that the clubrecognized the fact that they need to look past the Argentine now. Gabriel Jesus is touted to be the one that takes over Aguero’s shoes but Erling Braut Haaland has been linked with a move away from Dortmund and the Etihad Stadium is said to be his next probable destination. Having said that, the former Premier League champions have been joined by Chelsea in their pursuit of the Norweigan forward, as per 90 min.

It is believed that a release clause in Erling Haaland’s contract gets activated only in 2022 and it is worth 68 million pounds. Therefore, it can be assumed that the teams interested in the 20-year-old might just wait until 2022 as Dortmund is expected to shoot up their striker’s price in an excess of 100 million pounds. Chelsea have joined the race for the 20-year-old despite signing the likes of Timo Werner, and Hakim Ziyech. The Blues have got a talent of their own in Tammy Abraham and one can expect them to drop their interest in Haaland, especially after splashing funds in the recently concluded summer window. A total sum in excess of 200 million pounds was spent by the former Premier League champions.
The Sky Blues are touted as the favorites to land the 20-year-old as the player’s father, Alf-Inge was a former Sky Blue, and Haaland’s past photographs show him wearing a Manchester City jersey. Though these are just mere speculations, they may just influence the player’s decision. Erling has committed to Dortmund for the near future but the very presence of a release clause in his contract which will be activated in 2022, suggests that this season might be the Norweigan’s last at the Signa Iduna Park.
Erling Braut Haaland is just 20-years-old and has got a lot of time and potential on his side. With the experience of having played at the topmost level, he will surely be a good fit for Cityzens. However, the real question is if the former Premier League champions would like to wait it out until 2022 or go for an immediate transfer.
