David Alaba and Bayern Munich are stuck in a two-way deadlock over the former’s contract talks.

Manchester City have recognized the situation that has been brewing at the Allianz Arena over the past few months and it involves their star defender, David Alaba. The Austrian International has been refusing a new contract at the Allianz as Bayern aren’t willing to meet his wage demands which would see him earn as much as 12 million euros on a yearly basis. Bayern Munich aren’t willing to shell out a sum that big and Manchester City and rivals, United have entered the frame now, as per Diario AS.

The Bavarians do not seem to think that Alaba deserves to be the highest earner at the club alongside their goal-machine in Robert Lewandowski. Having said that, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Real Madrid are said to be the potential suitors for the defender. There have been links tying the 28-year-old to Barcelona as well. However, with the Catalan giants’ current financial situation, it would be impossible for them to meet the player’s wage demands. Real Madrid’s decision of going for Alaba would depend on their skipper, Sergio Ramos signing a new contract which hasn’t happened so far.

Based on their current respective situations, Manchester United might be a bit more desperate than Manchester City whose defence has been rock-solid this season. Manchester United have leaked goals when no one expected them to and Alaba might be a good addition to the Red Devils outfit. Moreover, with Nathan Ake and John Stones stepping up, City have got their defence sorted. Aymeric Laporte is another option that they can go to but Alaba at Etihad will only do good. It never hurts to have a bit more competition at the club. Manchester City however, might be better poised to meet his wage demands though there will be efforts made to reduce the player’s demands. This is because of the larger picture that the club is currently staring at. The former Premier League champions are said to be in pole position to sign Lionel Messi for the next season and the 33-year-old is the best paid player in European football.

With the winter window fast approaching, Manchester City will keep close tabs on the Bundesliga star. As per Goal however, the situation is slightly different as Chelsea are said to be closing in on the defender. Only time will tell where Alaba finally lands up and what the future holds for the Cityzens.
