Manchester City are now confident about their chances of landing Lionel Messi without much worry about their wage bill.

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are confident about their chances of landing Lionel Messi because of the 33-year-old’s eagerness to leave Barcelona.

After having spent 16 years at Barcelona, Lionel Messi’s time at Camp Nou finally seems to be coming to an end. The Argentine endured a horrific last season as Barcelona went trophyless. To top that, they suffered an embarrassing and humiliating 8-2 loss at the hands of Bayern Munich, shortly after surrendering the La Liga title to their arch-rivals in Real Madrid. To sum it up, one can simply say that Barcelona is not the team that we’re used to seeing, at least for now. Having said that, it must be mentioned that Lionel Messi hasn’t yet dropped the idea of leaving Barcelona as he still hasn’t opened contract talks with the Blaugrana. Caught Offside reports that the 33-year-old is ready to reduce his astronomically high wage demands in a bid to join a new club. The 33-year old wizard with the ball earns an insane £750,000 pounds/week and has reportedly agreed to take a wage cut in a bid to enter a new club.

There have been only two clubs that Messi has been linked to, since announcing his intention to leave Barcelona. Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are the two clubs. Only these two clubs can afford Messi’s wage bills and with some serious players in their respective squads, they can offer a winning project to Messi which is more reliable than what Barcelona has to offer.

It is believed that the Argentine is ready to cut his wages to half the sum that he receives now but that would still make him the highest earner in Manchester City and will place him on the same level with Neymar, should he decide to join PSG.

By the looks of it, Barcelona are going to find it tough to win the La Liga this season, and a Champions League victory looks highly improbable. The Blaugrana seems to be headed towards another trophy-less season with the added risk of losing the best player in their club’s history.

Manchester City will be highly benefitted from Messi’s arrival as a Messi-Guardiola reunion has the potential to win the Champions League. Pep Guardiola has won two UCL titles to date and on both occasions, Lionel Messi was his go-to man. Moreover, with de Bruyne in the midfield, a lot of creative play and link-up between Messi and the Belgian can be expected which will boost the attack manifolds.
