According to reports, Pep Guardiola is interested in bringing in Tottenham’s Harry Winks to bolster the squad for next season.

24-year old Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks is reportedly the subject of interest for Manchester City next season, who could bring in a replacement for David Silva. With Spurs only qualifying for the Europa League this season by finishing sixth in the Premier League, Winks could look to continue in the Champions League with City, although he will face stiff competition.

Winks is a solid young English player, but his role within City’s system is not completely clear. While his play style seemingly suits the holding midfield role for Guardiola’s team, with Rodri, İlkay Gündoğan, and Fernandinho available, it seems more likely that Winks would feature in the attacking midfield rotation.

He would not come cheaply, but would help City remain over the domestic player quota and could be a big part of the future at the Etihad. Midfield should not be the top priority for City at the moment, who are still in deep negotiations for Kalidou Koulibaly, and could also look to bring in a striker or left-back. With options such as Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva stepping in once David Silva departs, a player like Winks should only come in if it will be viewed as a long-term replacement for Gündoğan and Fernandinho as a rotation option for Rodri.

City have already had a prolific summer in the transfer market with the signings of Ferran Torres and Nathan Aké, and that could continue as City look to reload heading into a quick turnaround for next season’s Premier League.
