Inter Milan could price Manchester City out of Škriniar deal
25-year old central defender Milan Škriniar has been viewed as the ideal fit for a reloaded Manchester City backline, but Inter Milan’s demands of at least £75 million could prevent City from signing the player.
Milan Škriniar has enjoyed another brilliant season in Serie A, commanding the backline of Antonio Conte’s title-challenging Inter Milan team alongside stalwarts Diego Godín and Stefan de Vrij. Manchester City’s long-held interest in the player has not wavered, but Inter reportedly rejected a bid of just under £59 million from the English champions.
City are reportedly unwilling to meet Inter’s current demands, which begin at £75 million, and it could cause the club to look elsewhere in the transfer market to solve the defensive issues that have plagued the team this season.
Škriniar is a top defender and looks poised to be one of the world’s best in the coming seasons, but even in an inflated market, City have yet to pay more than £62 million for any one player. This remains part of the club’s successful business model, something they have committed to for better or worse.

Although City are fiscally responsible, the policy directly prevented them in signing Virgil van Dijk, the cornerstone of rivals’ Liverpool’s Champions League victory, and could cause the club to miss out on another elite defender. Top defenders cost top dollar in today’s market, and I believe that if City truly want to climb back to the top of European football and defeat Liverpool, they must invest seriously in the position this summer and avoid cheaper alternatives.
This summer will be a key point for City as they rebuild in the market, and I believe that the club should meet Inter’s demands and bring Škriniar to Manchester as he forms one of the world’s most sturdy partnerships with Aymeric Laporte.
