Spurs 2 Manchester City 0 : Crazy Game Ends in Defeat
By David Crook
Manchester City lost at Spurs in the Premier League by two goals.
This is one of those Manchester City games which can seriously damage the health of supporters. It had almost every element of high drama imaginable from VAR delays and reviews, penalties, red cards and yellow cards, non red cards and injury.
From the kick off at least, City looked normal. All swagger and guile and at this stage there were few indications of the drama to come
All told though, the game neatly encapsulates the summary of the season so far for City. Wasted chances and defensive lapses. Ultimately the expectations of City fans are reducing by each passing game.

De Bruyne and Aguero both went close to opening the scoring before the game burst into life after Aguero was fouled in the penalty area, which was seen by everyone except the referee.
Inexplicably it took a couple of minutes before the VAR check instructed the on pitch referee to bring the play back. Gundogan stepped up and missed the apot kick, Sterling raced in sweep home the rebound and was brought down.
This time VAR was on holiday or still celebrating Spur’s Champions League success from last season, either way all that happened was Zinchenko was booked for his role in the ensuing melee, something which comes back to haunt him later on.
Gundogan smashed another good opportunity over the cross bar and then Zinchenko picked up his second yellow card, leaving City down to 10 men.
It did not take long for Spurs to make the numerical advantage count, as their new signing curled in a lovely shot past the out stretched Ederson.
Spurs doubled their lead thanks to a deflected shot from Son and the game was all but over. De Bruyne still thundered on but could not find the decisive moment.
City fell to their second defeat in 2 games, failing to score for the second game in succession.
The statistics tell a different story, about how City dominated possession and shots, but at the end of the day there is only one statistic which really counts – wins.
This 6th defeat of the season suggests that this year is akin to 2016/17 levels. Still, there’s always the League Cup Final to look forward to. We go again.
