Looking back from the end of December 2019, the year casts a curious shadow as a Manchester City fan.
For so much of 2019, Manchester City burned so bright they threatened to eclipse all other teams. Indeed, it took the intervention of VAR to deny us the full clean sweep and instead we had to settle for the clean sweep of domestic trophies.
The success we enjoyed on the pitch was unparalleled. The performances on the pitch were outstanding and the joy we felt as fans was invigorating.
As a Manchester City fan of 53 years of age I never truly thought I would witness what we have seen in the last decade. As the fans sing – we have seen things they will never see.

For all of the glory of the Aguero moment back in 2012, where time stood still as he scored THE goal which secured the title with the last kick in the last game to deny our fiercest rivals, and for all that attacking bluster of the 2014 win under Pellegrini, I still thought the Centurions campaign in 2017/18 was the pinnacle of my time as a fan.
I was of course wrong because the 2018/19 campaign was the greatest thing I have seen in my life. We won the Carabao Cup – retaining a trophy for the first time in our history, thanks to a Raheem Sterling penalty kick in the shoot out.
We won the Premier League by winning every single game we needed to in order to hold off the strongest League opponents we have ever faced. Along the way we enjoyed the unbridled passion of the Vincent Kompany goal against Leicester which set up our title retention.
To have amassed 198 points in 2 seasons is almost incomprehensible. The level of intensity and commitment required has set new levels in the sport we love. Raising the bar of achievement is what all truly great sides do and we proudly stack up against the United teams of the 1990s and the Arsenal and Chelsea sides which have contributed so much over the years.
Finishing the season with a 6-0 FA Cup Final win was just amazing. That game at Wembley was one of the happiest times of my life and i am not sure those feelings will ever be replicated, even if I live until 100!
