The draw for the Semi Finals of the Carabao Cup was made immediately following the Manchester City victory over Oxford United.

As the Manchester City players gathered in the dressing room after the victory over Oxford United, the draw was made for the Semi Finals by Dennis Wise and Chris Kamara. Even as the City ball was pulled from the bag, Kamara joked “Is that the warm one?”, confirming what we all expected. He is not funny.

From the minute the teams in the Semi Finals were confirmed it was a racing certainty that City would draw Manchester United. This is how it is.

Of course drawing our rivals is not something we should dismiss. They are a good side who are more than capable of beating any team we put out. In fact, it confirms that we will need to play our best team if we are to progress to our third Carabao Cup Final in a row.

The thing is, as I have said before – this is a competition I like to play in and win. The final in particular feels like a real moment for fans because it is an opportunity for so many of us to go to Wembley and watch City. Seats for the game are mostly available for fans, none of the restricted allocation of the FA Cup Final and of course the seat prices themselves are relatively keen.

The chance to win a trophy in February makes a real impact upon our season and the last couple of years has helped to propel our League performances towards the finish line.

However, facing United is no easy task. The last time we faced them in the League Cup was back in 2016/17 season when we lost by a solitary Juan Mata goal to cement our worst run of form under Pep Guardiola. In fact that was our last loss in this Carabao Cup competition.

So as a City fan this is another anxious game to watch from behind the sofa. I still hate derby games!
