Here at Man City Square we have always tried to give publicity to fan run initiatives and activities and we have been awe struck by a wonderful new book written and illustrated by Manchester City fans.

This beautiful new book covers every goal of the stunning ‘Fourmidables‘ season. The idea was straightforward enough – every goal in the whole campaign would be drawn by freelance artist and City fan – Lesley Ross (@111Lesley111). These hand drawn pictures of the goals are stunningly created and coloured, capturing what for blues fans was a truly memorable year.

Lesley has been born and bred in Stockport and is a City season ticket holder having attended her first match in 1980. Lesley drew Dennis Tueart and Asa Hartford from the match day programme after that match and that experience cemented her passion, both for art and Manchester City!

Lesley works in the events industry providing graphics and animations, but not too long ago went back to her first love of drawing City players. Her most memorable moment was when the club asked her to create a drawing to celebrate Sergio Aguero breaking the club goalscoring record with his 178th goal.

To accompany the beautiful pictures in this new book, another City fan – Peter Thornton (@insidewrite1957), contributed the words to bring to life this impressive undertaking. Peter has been writing professionally for over 40 years and working with City since 2012.

Peter has written several films for the club including the walk outs, the Fourmidables and the 125 years celebration.

The combination of hand drawn art and prose is unique amongst football books and sits like an art book, with it’s high quality print work and elegant design. For any discerning City fan looking for a piece of memorabilia which really stands out from the corporate crowd, then this is the real deal.

Lesley explains the painstaking efforts which have gone into creating this book, stating it has taken around 1 month to research and draw each and every goal, and 2 weeks to write and research each and every goal.

This book is therefore truly a labour of love. We hope you like it as much as we do!
