Manchester City thrashed Watford on Saturday in an Eight goal mauling.

Now that the dust has begun to settle on the wonderful Manchester City 8-0 victory over Watford in the Premier League we thought we would have a look at some of the statistics from the game.

Any match where there was such extreme dominance throws up some interesting data.

Manchester City had a total of 28 shots during the match, 11 of which were on target. City amassed 68.7% possession and notched up a 90% pass completion rate. Given the heightened criticism in respect of City’s defending in recent weeks we thought it was worth pointing out that during this match we won 11 aerial battles and also made 18 tackles, with a 72% tackle success rate!

More from Man City Square

So far this season Manchester City have scored 24 goals in the Premier League – 7 more than Liverpool. In fact third placed Leicester City have managed just 8 goals in total this season and we achieved that in 90 minutes!

City have now put at least 6 goals past Watford in successive games in 2019. The last time a team achieved a similar feat was Chelsea against Wigan back in 2010.

This win over Watford was in fact our record top flight league win, beating our previous best of scoring 7 against Norwich back in 2013!

When City raced to the 5-0 lead they achieved in 18 minutes, it was in fact the fastest ever achieved in Premier League history!

We turn now to look at some of the individual player performances which were on show.

Kevin De Bruyne added another 2 assists to his tally in the match bringing him up to 7 so far for this season in 6 games. Overall he has 53 assists in the Premier League to date and may well start to think about the record.

Bernardo Silva hit his first ever hat trick in what was his 178th match! Interestingly it was the first time he has scored in back to back home games for City.

Our final two statistics both concern our bona fide superstar striker – Sergio Aguero. When he scored the penalty he did in fact become the first player ever in Premier League history to score in each of the first 6 games of the season.

The penalty conversion also meant that he became only the 3rd player to have scored 100 plus League goals at a single ground – behind Thierry Henry who scored 114 goals at Highbury and Wayne Rooney who scored 101 times at Old Trafford. Both of those goal tallies seem within reach of Aguero if he keeps up his current form.
