The Defence
Ederson
Our Brazilian number one was called into action several times today and never let us down. He remained focussed throughout – headed clearances and point blank saves included as added extras. As usual his distribution was faultless.
Player Rating 7
Kyle Walker
Another good game from Kyle who looks fired up and keen to assert control of the right full back role. At the moment he is keeping Cancelo on the sidelines. Of note today amongst the powerful running and some measured defending were a number of accurate longer passes.
Player Rating 8
Nicolas Otamendi
Ended up playing both sides of the centre back roles and did so without much incident. Was caught maybe once in the game when he stepped up a little too early but otherwise solid.
Player Rating 7
Aymeric Laporte
Such a controlled and classy defender who was covering Zinchenko who was frequently being exposed. A real shame he suffered injury on the eve of his call up to the French National team.
Player Rating 7
Oleks Zinchenko
A little out of sorts today. Clearly targeted in the Brighton game plan as they ran into the space he left behind. Exposed as a consequence and there was too much space between him and Sterling.
