We talk about the Manchester City Victory with West Ham fans
By David Crook
Manchester City put 5 goals past West Ham United in a dominant display in their first League game of the season.
In the immediate aftermath of this crushing victory we caught up with our friend – @adamsmiiith – the site expert at Green St Hammers and big West Ham fan. We talked to Adam about how he felt the game had gone and whether there were any positives the West Ham fans could take from the defeat.
Man City Square: How do you think the game went? Did you feel it was a fair result?
Green St Hammers: It was a game of two halves (half’s?) an competitive first half and a predictable second half. Things got out of hand quickly and I would have liked to have seen West Ham finish their chances, but City were very impressive to say the least
Man City Square: Do you think Wilshire has the pace to play against a top 6 side?

Green St Hammers: Wilshere looked very tentative and completely unlike how he looked in preseason. He absolutely is in our best XI but don’t judge him after this performance, it was his first start since September of last year. We all know how good he can be, I think this was a minor success just because he didn’t get injured to be honest.
Man City Square: Haller looked neat in his build up play, particularly in the early phases of the game. Were you happy with his performance?
Green St Hammers: Haller was our only positive player in my estimation. The most impressive for me was his tackling to win possession back for the team. I think he could be a problem for our opposition this season and got off to a good start despite the result.
Man City Square: Who was your standout player?
Green St Hammers: see above answer. Haller was our lone bright spot today
Man City Square: We have had a bad experience with VAR last season. It’s not too bad on TV but at the game it’s just too disruptive and sucks the life out of the crowd. How do you think VAR went?
Green St Hammers: it can only get better from here. I watched from home so I can’t speak to the atmosphere but I am of the “would rather get it right and wait” camp! We also we a lot farther than a VAR decision away from making it close. By the way, did the penalty save even count??
Man City Square: Have you changed your mind about any season predictions after the game?
Green St Hammers: I’ll stick with my preseason predictions- City to win the League and West Ham to challenge for top-6. One game doesn’t make a season so I’m not panicking either. It’ll be tough but I think this team will come together with a lot of games left to play!
Man City Square: I was talking to some West Ham fans I follow on twitter during the game. One said the only positive is that West Ham only have to play City once more in the next 37 games. That feels a bit harsh, but what positives do you take?
Green St Hammers: That’s a knee jerk reaction if serious but likely a light hearted but kinda true joke. I don’t take much from that comment other than a slight chuckle!
Man City Square: Sorry another question. Two great kits on display today. Our Hacienda inspired kit and your retro kit, which is similar to what I remember Alan Devonshire in many years ago. Which kit won the battle today?
Green St Hammers: I have to be a homer here, but I love the simplicity of a retro kit, especially as lovely as our home kit! Hats off to Umbro for us, too, as the away kit is even better! Your kit was special… but too much going on and not enough Man City on the kit!
Part 2 of our conversation with Green St Hammers will be following shortly.
