Manchester City’s Leroy Sane Suffers Injury
By David Crook
Professional footballers have short careers and any young footballer who suffers a serious injury knows at the very least they will miss a considerable chunk of playing time.
The news which emerged from Manchester City yesterday was the news no one wanted to hear. It was confirmed that our speedy left winger, Leroy Sane, had in fact suffered an injury during the Community Shield.
Sane left the pitch after 13 minutes following a fairly innocuous challenge from Liverpool’s Trent Alexander Arnold. Unfortunately, as City fans tend to know from experience serious injuries can often occur from innocuous challenges.
City have confirmed Sane has suffered an injury to his Anterior Cruciate Ligament. The extent of the injury is not known, whether it is a slight tear or more serious. All we know is surgery is required and consequently Sane will be subject to a lengthy lay off.

I m not a specialist so I am not going to predict the likely recovery time, or future impact upon his career. Instead I am going to concentrate upon the human impact of the injury upon Sane.
There is a long road to recovery in front of our young German player, during which he will be separate from the first team. He will have many hours ahead of him in medical rooms and the gym and this will require dedication and commitment to come through.
He will come through this experience more focused and grateful for the gifts he has. Keeping him mentally fit during this long period will be key to maintaining his progress.
There is no point dwelling upon what Sane will miss out upon as a consequence. Instead, we must look to the future and hope we see him back in a blue shirt as soon as possible.
Our thoughts are with Sane at this time and we wish him a speedy recovery.
