Manchester City Transfer Rumour Round Up: The Outgoings?
By David Crook
Manchester City are rumoured to have a number of existing squad members who are unhappy with their playing time and looking to move elsewhere. In addition protracted contract renewals for several players would appear to have run their course.
If Manchester City are expecting to receive a transfer ban later in the year for two windows then they may well choose to have a very busy transfer window this summer. Such an approach may well give them a chance both to prepare and to conclude their squad for the final two years of the Pep Guardiola era at the helm.
Given all of this then several players may find themselves looking for new Clubs.
Leroy Sane
Leroy is I believe one of the brightest stars in our team and he really has the potential to become World Class. Regardless of my belief in his ability he has had a number of contract offers on the table and has not yet signed an extension. With a contract which expires in 2021, City may be in the position of having to maximise the value of him before they would like.

Some journalists have suggested his head may have been turned already as he is pursued by several big suitors such as Bayern Munich who are certainly in the position of needing to rebuild. Of course the thought of him leaving is painful, it is likely the pain will be offset by a significant transfer fee, probably in excess of £100 million.
Losing Leroy would also mean a replacement would be sort which in itself would be interesting but the fee received would considerably assist in large scale City squad redevelopment.
I still believe Sane will sign a new contract and personally believe we should pay him whatever he wants!
Ilkay Gundogan
Ilkay seems increasingly unlikely to be signing a new deal and is close to entering the last 12 months of his current contract. Despite being Guardiola’s first signing at Manchester City he has seen his appearances disrupted by some lengthy injury lay offs. Right now though he is in a good moment in terms of form.
Several press reports have suggested he is in negotiation with a number of Italian Clubs. I certainly believe the slower nature of some of the Italian games would suit his style but his potential loss from our squad should be a worry. He has been a key performer for us in a variety of tactical roles but seems intent on moving.
I believe Ilkay will move on this summer to pastures new.
Riyad Mahrez
Riyad is unhappy according to well placed Press stories by his camp. A lack of playing time is generally stated as a reason. Our transfer record signing has had an ok but not stellar season. He has struggled to find a rhythm without game time but has struggled to find game time without rhythm. Consequently he has looked like a limited player at times I am surprised he has taken so long to settle but hoped he would apply himself for next year.
If he is not willing to do that he may find a move on the cards. Although getting back the money we paid for him may prove problematic. I suspect a lot will depend on City. City will choose whether the player stays or goes. Guardiola has said he is under contract and whilst he went on strike at Leicester, such an action by the player will be unlikely to yield his desired outcome.
I believe Riyad will remain with City.
Danilo
Has a Champions League Winners Medal already of course and deserves more game than he has received. Press Reports seem to indicate he is being linked with Italian Clubs and again I could see such a move on the cards.
His stop start City career has been hampered by injuries which have often been sustained on International duty and the performances by Kyle Walker. Any move by Danilo will result in reinforcements being required.
As he is under contract until 2022 I suspect he will only move on if we have already identified a new full back.
Gabriel Jesus
The biggest surprise amongst the reported departures is Jesus. He is still a young man who has developed into a great player. As Aguero gets older the expectation would be Jesus would receive more game time. I can understand if Jesus views his lack of game time as hindering his development and hampering his International career.
City have also been strongly linked to a couple of other strikers in the Summer which may indicate there are changes afoot. But given how he is such an integral component of our young squad I would be very surprised if he was looking to move.
