Manchester City v Shaktar Donetsk Player Ratings
By David Crook
Another excellent home performance by Manchester City to end a run of 3 consecutive home defeats in the UEFA Champions League.
ManCity Square took the time to review and rate the performance of all the Manchester City players and here are the results:
Ederson
When called into action Ederson looks assured and comfortable. His distribution continues to impress. No evident boredom from Ederson today
Rating 7
Kyle Walker
Slightly careless in his early passing but offered some great recovery challenges and movements into space. Worked well with his wingers.
Rating 7
Oleks Zinchenko
Solid and with an impressive range of passing. On occasion he was caught out of position and his defensive duties had to be covered by Aymeric Laporte.
Rating 7
Aymeric Laporte
Another great display with Stones. These two young players are looking every part of a fantastic defensive partnership which has the chance to deliver for years to come. A good range of passing on show, great reading of the game and superbly confident in possession. Beginning to look like a bargain signing.
Rating 8
John Stones
The moment came where he took the Captain’s armband was wonderful. Stones looks to have put those dodgy moments firmly in the past. Looks comfortable and classy at all times.

Fernandinho
Fernandinho is incredibly turning in these performances every 3 days. His value to the team is immense as he patrols the midfield, breaking down the opposition attacks and recovering the ball quickly. Also had a range of passing on show.
Rating 8
David Silva
Silva whizzed around like a ballet dancer at times, intercepting and cajoling the ball, breaking up play and finding space and passes where there is none. He may have actually got better.
Rating 9
Bernardo Silva
Bernardo is a terrier, trooping everywhere across the pitch. His batteries are immense – he just seems to keep going and quietly working his way through the massed ranks of players.
Rating 8
Riyad Mahrez
Mahrez has settled into the side and throughout the whole 90 minutes looked for opportunities to release players in attacking positions. Created for others and took his own chance very well.
Rating 9
Raheem Sterling
He is top of two leagues. Brilliant display and a contender for goal of the season. Sterling is becoming the first name on the team sheet and the one player in our front 3 who Pep can not drop.
Rating 9
Gabriel Jesus
At times he lacked confidence and could have had more goals but has to settle for a hat trick! His third goal was fantastic and a sign that Jesus may be back.
