City should not chase this Juventus star

Italian media are busy linking Manchester City with Miralem Pjanic.

Pep Guardiola is unfazed at the moment, though, and should remain that way as the beginning of the season draws closer.

After the spectacular signing of Cristiano Ronaldo, Juventus are looking to earn some of the money back and Miralem Pjanic could be in the running for a move away from Turin.

And Jorginho’s proposed switch to the Sky Blues collapsed, meaning Manchester City are potentially prime targets to swoop for the Bosnian.

The Napoli midfielder was set to join Pep Guardiola’s men for £44 million, however the deal fell through at the last minute and the Brazilian ended up reuniting with Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea.

The failed move could have tempted Guardiola to push for another midfielder, and fresh rumours involving Mario Lemina, Mateo Kovavic and, most strongly, Miralem Pjanic have dominated headlines recently.

But Guardiola’s shrewdness means he will not pursue Pjanic, and that is a smart choice.

More from Man City Square

The Spaniard was blunt in his response to the rumours, claiming that:

"‘No, he’s a player for Juventus. We are not interested. He’s a top player but we are not interested.’"

Guardiola also touched on whether City will make another signing before the new campaign:

"‘We’ll see. We have a few weeks and we will decide, maybe one, maybe not. We have a good squad. We can handle players in different positions. We’ll see if we buy one or if we wait.’"

Kevin de Bruyne, Fernandinho and David Silva amalgamated wonderfully in the centre of midfield last term. Although Jorginho might have provided more stability, Pjanic is certainly more focused on attacking and there is no one better than de Bruyne to orchestrate a move.

Manchester City’s commanding central players were arguably the focal point of the famous title-winning team, and rocking that boat might prove costly come the beginning of the season.

Pjanic is certainly an attractive proposition, and one Guardiola may return to in the future, however the Sky Blues don’t require any more options at the moment.
