Carabao Cup Reaction: Africa/South Asia
Pep Guardiola guided his Manchester City side to their first trophy of his reign at the weekend. A poor performance from Arsenal, meant City hardly had to get out of second gear. Over 80,000 people were at Wembley Stadium, with millions more watching around the world.
The appetite for English football around the globe is growing, as is the following for City. Spreading out with sister clubs, and strategic partnerships, Manchester City have fans far and wide. I decided, after Sunday’s victory, to reach out to a few of these fans and find out what they thought of the win.
I wanted to know why they followed City, what they thought of the season so far and what were their expectations going forward. Here’s what I got back:
More from Man City Square
- Rodri believes City can have even more success this season
- Grealish, Stones, and Kovacic will NOT play tomorrow
- My Manchester City UCL Group Stage predictions

Muhammed (Pakistan):
I wanted to get into football even though it’s not very popular here, decided the watch the opening game of the season 15/16 City vs Chelsea. Saw David Silva dancing around them, instantly fell in love.
Was pretty nervous about the game on Sunday, with Bravo starting and Danilo at LB. Am over the moon that we won and I’ve been waiting for a season like this where everything just gels together to produce this masterpiece.
Even more excited for coming seasons with us filling a few of a holes left and even more interested in seeing how Gunn, Maffeo, Angelino, Diaz And Foden are accommodated into the team who I believe to have a future here.
Meanwhile, across the border, another Blue fan got back to me.
Chethan (India):
I saw the City vs Arsenal at home with a mate. I personally felt that city dominated the game..all the players didn’t look like they gave a 100% but it was great win for us.
As far as the season is concerned I really feel City should have gone further in the FA Cup..they’re doing great, really hope we win the UCL this time. We definitely need better luck with injuries though.
My first memory of city is the game against Man U where City beat the rags 6-1. Love just grew for me over the years.
Moving across to the African continent I had Justin and Tariiq respond.
Justin (South Africa/Manchester):
I am originally from South Africa but now living in Redhill in the UK. Went to London to watch it along with about 60 other fans from the London branch of the supporters club. Amazing atmosphere, great to be around so many other blues.
Been following City since 1981. The first ever game I watched City play was on TV. We were living in Swaziland at the time and it was the ’81 Cup final against Spurs which we lost unfortunately, but have been a Blue ever since.
mEanwhile, in Kenya, Tariiq didn’t get to see the game live but did see the replay. Of the game he said the following We played well and showed aggressive attacks.
