Manchester City: Ten wins for the title
Manchester City returned to winning ways yesterday at the expense of Newcastle United. The victory sees Pep Guardiola’s side regain their twelve point gap ahead of United, with fourteen games left to play.
The mathematics of that mean that, even if United win all their League games from now until the end of the season, City only need ten wins to secure the trophy. With that in mind, I decided to look at exactly what that meant for the season. Which game could that be?
Of course our tenth Premier League game is away to Tottenham, which would be great to see. But, for me there is a much better, and sweeter scenario. Our ninth game, the game before the Spurs game, is at home to Manchester United.
How good would it be to head into that game with enough points that a victory or draw would be enough to secure the title? City fans would not only get to celebrate at their home ground, in front of the local rivals. but maybe Alexis Sanchez too.
Wearing the red of United rather than the sky blue of City what could potentially be going through his head at that moment. And it is really quite an attainable target. After that United game, providing it isn’t rearranged, there would only be five games left.

Heading into that game with a gap equalling a point more than we have now would be more than enough to secure the title against United with a win. City, with their participation in the Carabao Cup, have an extra game to negotiate in January than United do. However, their Premier League match, on the final day of the month, is away to Tottenham while ours is at home to West Brom.
In February we have to face Burnley away and Leicester at home before Champions League takes over. Two weeks after we travel to Switzerland we face Arsenal away, giving us plenty of time to recover. Although that fixture could still take place, the name might change with both clubs potentially facing each other in the Carabao Cup Final, which also takes place on that day.
For United it’s Huddersfield at home before Newcastle away. For the Reds though their Champions League game happens a week after City’s. Away to Sevilla they then host Chelsea four days later. I am sure we will hear more from Mourinho on that as the days come closer.

March is a little more challenging with City hosting Chelsea before the Champions League return leg. Three days after FC Basel we then travel to Stoke City before hosting Brighton. A two week gap then see us wrapping up our March away to Everton.
The same month, United face Palace away before hosting Liverpool. Three days later they host Sevilla in the Champions League before travelling to the Hammers four days later. They host Swansea for the final game of the month and before we head into the second Manchester derby.
