It’s a great time to be a fan of Manchester City at this current time in their history. devastating displays not once, but three times, in the last week has us buzzing. At the moment City are top of the pile looking down at the other nineteen, and it feels good.

Late goals on Sunday, against Everton for Manchester United put them on the exact same points as us. Same goals scored and same goals conceded has pundits proclaiming the title is already just going to be between the two Manchester clubs.

Jose Mourinho has recently said that he’s not even thinking about City ‘for a single second’ and instead choosing to focus on the other, pre season title favorites. Personally I’m thinking he may not be thinking about City because he wants to sleep well at night.

To be fair though, both sides have a number of games before that December 9th meeting at Old Trafford. A lot can change in those ten or so weeks and it wouldn’t make sense for him to worry too much yet. As a result, I didn’t take too much into his comments at the weekend and put it down to Mourinho being Mourinho.

Today, Ander Herrera, the Spanish Jack Rodwell, has also spouted some fear of City. Talking to the British press he is quoted as saying we have an obligation to win titles due to all the money we have spent. Pointing out that, in Pep’s first year in charge, us Blues won nothing.

More from Man City Square

Comically he points to the fact that United won three ‘titles’ last season alone! Those titles United won were the Europa League, the League Cup and a Community Shield. I agree the Europa League is not a bad trophy to win but really, the League Cup? A competition in which most big clubs play their reserve sides until the latter stages, and a pre season friendly? That’s the treble?

So, should money equal titles? Since their last Premier League title, back in the 2012/13 season, United have won the treble mentioned above, and a solitary FA Cup. In that time they have spent 700 million on players, recouping 188, for a net spend of 512million.

At the same time, Manchester City have spent only 74 million more than United. I say ‘only’ because with the current transfer fees this season, it doesn’t buy you too much. recouping 213 million in the same time and our net spend is only a Raheem Sterling more than United.

For that money, City have a Premier League title, two League Cups and a Champions League semi final place. Both Managers are now in their second season with their respective clubs, and yes, Pep is behind when you take last season alone. The difference is that now Pep has a squad closer to the age and style he wants and, as seen recently, can destroy the opposition.

Next: Thanks Fernandinho but goodbye

I have no doubt trophies will be coming up to Manchester, the question is how many will have blue ribbons, how many red and, vitally, where will the most prestegious ones go. One thing is for sure, United don’t have to face us until December and already the mind games have started. Nervous much lads?
