With two quality strikers at his disposal, Pep Guardiola has a happy headache at his hands. Who will feature as the main striker? Can they coexist?
With a full season of Gabriel Jesus and having Sergio Aguero, there will be some questions as to how Pep will handle the striker situation. If Aguero is playing there is no doubt he plays as the striker. On the other hand, Gabriel Jesus can play as a striker or a winger. The versatility he possesses will allow Pep Guardiola to use multiple different line-ups and formations.
When Jesus first arrived at City Pep used him as the striker with Sterling and Sane as the wings. This trio of forwards provided chances and had great chemistry with each other. Toward the end of the season, Pep started to use both Aguero and Jesus together, with Aguero as the striker and Jesus as the winger. While wing may not be his preferred position, Jesus still played exceptionally well. Pep was probably using this as an experiment for next season to see whether they can play well together. He will have plenty of options as to how he wants to use his attackers. No doubt we will see multiple lineups throughout the season.
The squad rotation will be key throughout the season because City will be competing in four competitions and players must be kept fresh. The multiple lineup types that Pep at his disposal will allow some surprised up his sleeves. Aguero can play with anybody as the wingers but he will not play on the wing. Pep can use Jesus in numerous ways, allowing him to feature more often. He will be able to play in any position with any other attackers allowing him to get plenty of game time.

The Bernardo Silva signing shouldn’t change much about the game time that Aguero and Jesus will get. Pep will use as a central midfielder more often than not. However, it is crucial City sign one more attacking player, whether it be Alexis Sanchez or anyone else. As strange as it may sound, there isn’t much depth there. City currently has four players capable of starting that can play the three attacking positions and Pep generally likes to have two players at each position, leaving some questions to the depth up front.
When it comes to the end of the year Gabriel Jesus will have the most games played out of any of the attackers. The Brazilian will be able to fit into any position and play with any of the attackers. With Aguero, he will feature plenty throughout the season because he is one of the best strikers in the world. In my best eleven, with the roster as it currently is, I have both Aguero and Jesus staring with Sane up front because they had great chemistry at the end of the year and each player brings something special to the attack.
