What comes as a bit of a surprise, Manchester City is rumored to be courting James Rodriguez.

More from Man City Transfer Rumors

If one is a betting person, then one might bet that Manchester City is going to spend a lot this summer.

Whatever that enormous sum will be, around £50 million of it might go to bring James Rodriguez to the Eithad from the Bernabeu. Or at least that’s what The Sun would have people believe.

The tabloid reports, citing El Diario, James is a priority for Pep Guardiola.

The fed-up Real Madrid No. 10 has never been a favorite for manager Zinedine Zidane’s since the French legend took over Los Blancos in 2015. James has made only 15 appearances in La Liga this season, scoring only three goals.

But a change of scenery could be what the captain of the Colombian nation team needs to regain his offensive wizardry. After all, James is the Golden Boot winner for the last World Cup; he’s got mad skills.

If Guardiola and company are able to lure away the 25-year-old, it adds another powerhouse attacking midfielder to a stable that boasts David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne. As tantalizing as that prospective trio sounds, there is a concern.

Namely, how does Pep field all the weapons at his disposal. The squad would be increasingly top-heavy. If Alexis Sanchez joins in the summer, the decisions get harder, and every game likely two studs would be left out. That doesn’t seem like a recipe for a happy dressing room.

Next: No, landing Alexis neither a priority nor a ‘game-changer’

Then again, it wasn’t too long ago when the footballing world was buzzing about the young Colombian. Perhaps his ability is what Guardiola needs for City to be a contender for both the Premier League crown and a deep run in Europe next season.

The defense needs to be improved first. But if City can upgrade or get more depth with its attacking midfielders, it should.
