UCL Combined Best XI: Monaco vs. Manchester City
By Larry Henry
After a 5-3 first leg victory over Monaco in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, Manchester City will look to hold the French leaders and advance on Wednesday.
Pep Guardiola‘s side are coming off a 2-0 F.A. Cup quarterfinal victory last Saturday at Middlesbrough, and would like to advance in another historic competition with a positive result on Wednesday.

Monaco are coming off a 2-1 league victory vs. Bordeaux last Friday, and are still leading the French Ligue 1 division over the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Nice. Leonardo Jardin‘s side are the top-scoring side among the top five domestic leagues, and would like to advance to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
With tomorrow’s match quickly approaching, we decided to create a combined best XI between the two sides. The formation would be a 3-5-2 which changes things up from original tactics. Only available players will be used, while injured or suspended players will not be considered.
Goalkeeper – Willy Caballero
Despite being the #2 keeper to kick off the season, Caballero has filled the void left by Claudio Bravo and the Chilean’s inconsistent play. Monaco keeper Danijel Subasic has also been inconsistent for the French leaders, and is coming off another blunder at the weekend. Caballero has made some big saves for the team, and has become more comfortable in Pep’s ‘play out of the back’ strategy. I expect him to continue starting for Manchester City going forward, with Bravo getting looks in the league and F.A. Cup fixtures.
