Rumors suggest Pep Guardiola and Manchester City want Kingsley Coman. They also indicate they’ll face stiff competition from Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

According to the online rumor mill, Manchester City is fond of the idea of a Pep Guardiola-Kingsley Coman reunion. The City front office apparently is so high on the notion that Express reports an offer in the ballpark of £50 million is on the table for the talented winger.

Citing Telefoot, Express also notes City isn’t the only Premier League club eyeing a deal with Coman. Chelsea, the reprobate Blues that they are, also launched a bid of in the range of £44 to £52 million for the 20-year-old wide-man.

Bayern Munich, the club that currently holds Coman’s leash, might also have a say on where the Frenchman will play his football next season. Coman is in Bavaria on loan from Italian giants Juventus, and there is a buy-option of £18 million for him under the arrangement between the two clubs.

Not only that, Bayern looks keen to utilize it before the April 30 deadline.

“He (Coman) had a few difficulties after the Euros, but lately has returned to his usual level. We will probably activate the option to buy,” said Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (Express via Tuttosport).

Express is also quick to mention that Coman can refuse Bayern’s advances. But it’s difficult to see why he would. Even though he has only two goals in 17 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this campaign, he and Douglas Costa seem to be the heirs apparent for both the aging Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

Likewise, City does not need another upstart winger; it already has two youthful and very good ones in Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling. Gabriel Jesus is also supposed to be able to play out wide too. Why would Guardiola create unnecessary controversy and competition where there is no reason for it?

For City, the attack is already among Europe’s deadliest. It’s the defense that requires work and adjustment.

City would be better off to focus its financial powers there.
