Is a possible Joshua Kimmich-Pep Guardiola reunion at Manchester City in the cards?

Maybe, if the Mirror is to believed. It reports Guardiola as “put on red alert” after the Bayern Munich midfielder has vented about a lack of time on the pitch in Bavaria.

Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti is not a committed believer in Kimmich, who only has played 42 minutes in the last 5 matches, according to the Mirror.

On the other hand, Guardiola is a fervent supporter of the German. The Mirror notes Kimmich made 36 appearances in the one season the two were together at Bayern.

One particular quality working in Kimmich’s favor for a move to City is his renown versatility. First of all, he’s a holding midfielder great at winning the ball back. For the European Championships last year, Jogi Low deployed him at right back for Die Mannschaft.

Of course, Guardiola almost expects that his players can be effective in multiple positions.

Transfermarkt values Kimmich at £21.9 million — so not too expensive for a player already familiar with Guardiola.

Though Kimmich has rode the bench for Ancelotti, however, there are voices at Bayern who believe him to be a successor to great Philip Lahm. Lahm, who the Mirror notes as leaving Bayern after the season, said,

"“Josh has showed what level he can play at but we are at Bayern.“It is always difficult to play from the start, you have to accept that. He is absolutely professional and I believe it is a question of time until he plays again.”"

Well, if that is indeed the case, it’s put up or shut up  in regard to its satisfied star for Bayern. Otherwise, there would be an opening for City to exploit.

The one thing I don’t care for when it comes to Kimmich is that he isn’t the paciest player ever. He could play in central defense or midfield, but I think he’s too slow for full back to push forward and overlap.

There are faster options at full back out there for City.
