With the end of the 2014-2015 season already behind them, Manchester City has turned their attention to the upcoming Summer Transfer Window.  Many expect the Citizens to be extremely active in the transfer market.  With speculation continuing to grow regarding the playing future of Yaya Toure at the Etihad, it appears that Manchester City have started the process of finding a replacement for the powerful midfielder.

ESPN FC reports that Manchester City will look to sign FC Barcelona flop Alex Song.  Song spent the 2014-2015 season on loan with West Ham and impressed in his return to the Barclays Premier League.  Song had been incredible in his time at Arsenal, but struggled to demonstrate the same form in his La Liga career with Barcelona.

Reports suggest that Barcelona will only ask £6 million for the transfer of Alex Song.  If Manchester City could acquire a player with the class and experience of Song for the thrifty fee of £6 million, it would be a great start to the transformation of the club.  Alex Song possesses many of the same qualities of Yaya Toure, without the enormous wage demands.

Song is a powerful midfielder that is incredibly strong in possession, yet can also be dangerous moving forward in the attack and creating scoring chances.  Alex Song could add a great deal of toughness in the midfield and tremendous stability to both ends of the pitch.  Song has enjoyed some of the best football of his career in the Barclays Premier League and Manchester City would be more than happy to bring him back to one of the top four clubs in England.

It is hard to imagine that Alex Song would be willing to sign a permanent deal with a Premier League team that is not Arsenal.  However, recent years have seen former Arsenal players return from spells in other leagues to the Premier League, not with Arsenal.  Many expected former Gunner, Cesc Fabregas to return to the Premier League with Arsenal.  However, Fabregas decided to make the move to Chelsea and helped the Blues to a Barclays Premier League trophy in 2015.  The appeal of Arsenal is not as strong as it once was.  If Manchester City can earn the signature of Alex Song, it would be a great start to the Summer Transfer Window.
