Manchester City have been largely inactive this winter window but are potentially faced with a serious situation involving one of their superstar.

Sergio Aguero has been the best player for Manchester City during his nine-year spell at the Etihad stadium. The Argentine, however, runs out of a valid contract at the end of this season, unless it is renewed by the former Premier League champions. Having said that, numerous teams are keeping a close watch on the situation involving the 33-year-old at the Etihad Stadium as they hope to land him as a free agent. Paris Saint-Germain wants Aguero as Mauricio Pochettino believes that the addition of the 33-year-old can provide the team with a significant attacking boost. However, as per the latest reports from the Sun, Barcelona have entered the frame as they are still coping with the absence of Luis Suarez at the tip of the attacking line.

More from Man City Transfer Rumors

There have been no signs from Manchester City about their intentions to keep Aguero at the club at the end of this season. Neither of the parties have spoken about the situation in public and it remains to be seen if the former Premier League champions would like to keep their most prolific goal-scorer for another season. Aguero, 33, has been marred by injuries in recent times and has made only nine appearances this season. Perhaps the Argentine’s injury situation is stopping the Cityzens from offering him a new contract.

Kevin De Bruyne is open to ending his career at the Etihad stadium and manager Pep Guardiola is fairly confident about KDB staying at the club for the foreseeable future. The Belgian’s current contract will expire in 2023 but his recent performances have lured Manchester City into offering the playmaker another extension.

As it turns out to be, Manchester City have been closely linked with Barcelona ace Lionel Messi and the La Pulga is tipped with a move to Manchester City at the end of this season. The current Aguero situation has given Barcelona an opening to try and keep their all-time great at the club for another season. The Blaugrana wants to bring in Aguero because of his lethality in front of the goal and also due to the fact that Messi and Aguero share a very intimate relationship.

Having said that, there is nothing much Manchester City can do at the moment. Aguero needs to prove himself this season that he still has what it takes to fit into the pacy football of the Premier League. La Liga is comparatively slow-paced and with the striker’s knee situation, it might be tempting for him to move to the Camp Nou at the end of this season. Barcelona have lacked a proper striker ever since Suarez left the club.
