Claudio Echeverri endured a frustrating 2025-26 season. However, he showed flashes of quality during his loan spell at Girona in the second half of this season.

Looking ahead, it seems that Manchester City will have to send Echeverri out on loan once again. It doesn't seem like the young Argentinian playmaker is capable of being a City player yet. He has potential, but that isn't enough to make it at a club like City.

Claudio Echeverri made 17 appearances for Girona during the second half of this season. He scored one goal and added one assist in those matches. The positive of that loan spell was that Echeverri played. He endured a frustrating loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen in the first half of last season.

Echeverri showed flashes of quality at Girona but not enough.

Echeverri showed flashes of his quality. His aggressive dribbling, creativity and speed caught the eye for Girona. However, Echeverri was predominantly used as a substitute at Girona. What is clear in Echeverri's game is he is only 20 years of age. Echeverri isn't quite the finished product yet. He doesn't seem ready to make an impact at Manchester City just yet.

As Echeverri doesn't seem ready for a first team role at Manchester City, another loan spell likely beckons for him. It is hard to see how he can squeeze into the City squad for next season. There is too much quality in Echeverri's way in the City first team.

Given that Echeverri plays primarily as an attacking midfielder or can operate out wide, he faces a battle to make into the Manchester City squad. Players such as Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki, Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo stand in his way. Echeverri isn't yet at the level required to compete with them.

The simple facts are that Echeverri just isn't ready for a role in the Carabao Cup holders squad. Manchester City will likely have to send him out on loan again. Where that could be remains to be seen. Perhaps another spell in Spain could be on the cards. Or perhaps Portugal or Germany may suit Echeverri to gain valuable first team experience.

Next season does seem to be a make or break season for Echeverri. He has make an impact somewhere to have a chance of making it at Manchester City. If he doesn't, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Echeverri sold in twelve months time as he'd become another talented young player who couldn't quite cut it at Manchester City.
