Rumours are rife surrounding the future of Enzo Fernandez. After openly courting Real Madrid, which led to an internal club ban, it's Man City who are looking favorites to sign the Chelsea midfielder.
Let's be clear. Enzo Fernandez is a world-class midfielder. His passing range is phenomenal, his work rate top notch, he controls the midfield with aplomb.
So, why don't I want him at City? It's his off-the-field antics that disgust me. Man City's success has been built, amongst other factors, on team spirit, fighting together, working hard for each other and working hard for the club. There's been very few 'bad eggs' at Man City in recent seasons. Signing Enzo Fernandez would be the ultimate definition of a bad move.
Fernandez is one of the most dislikable players in world soccer. It's hard enough to find a Chelsea fan that likes him, let alone fans of other teams. While 'In Maresca We Trust' is in full flow, a move for his namesake would not go down well amongst Blues fans.
And do we even need him? If Rodri stays, absolutely not. If Rodri goes, absolutely not. Man City have spent big on Elliot Anderson, there's the potential of Ayyoub Bouaddi joining the club mixed in with current City players Nico Gonzalez, Tijjani Reijnders and Mateo Kovacic.
Don't get me wrong, Fernandez is a superior player to those listed (Rodri aside, obviously). But you know what? I don't care how good he is, I don't ever want to see him pull on a City blue shirt.
