Fresh off a World Cup win with Spain and being awarded the tournament's Golden Ball, Rodri seems to be looking for a fresh start closer to home with FC Barcelona.
Since joining Manchester City in 2019 Rodri has won 13 major trophies in 298 appearances for the club. Rodri has lifted Four Premier League Titles, two FA Cups, three League Cups, an FA Community Shield, the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and a FIFA Club World cup in the Manchester Blue.
Rodri also won the Ballon d’Or in 2023 following his success with Man City and Spain, where he won the Euros with his nation that summer. Rodri may not have racked up goals or assists, but he was the anchor to Man City’s midfield and has won everything he could with the club as he seeks a new challenge in Barcelona.
Rodri chooses Barcelona
The Spaniard is from Madrid but, over the past few days, has chosen the reigning La Liga champions, Barcelona, as his preferred destination ahead of Real Madrid and his boyhood club Atlético Madrid.
Fabrizio Romano reported that Rodri and his agent informed Real Madrid he wants to go to Barcelona and has already agreed personal terms with the club. Barça has opened talks with Man City in hopes of getting a deal done quickly.
Barcelona’s opening bid of €50m was denied by Manchester City, with the English club not willing to part with their star midfielder for the offered amount. Though the package was not accepted, Barça are working on another proposal for Rodi,
“The breakthrough can happen at any moment,” Romano said in his most recent report on negotiations for Rodri.
Man City know that Rodri wants a move to Barcelona but remain firm that they will not let him go unless they are satisfied with the transfer fee. A fee has yet to be agreed, but it only seems like a matter of time before Rodri completes a transfer to FC Barcelona.
The Spanish midfielder seems to have played his last game for Manchester City and leaves behind one of the most impressive legacies not just in the club’s history but in all football.
