Manchester City’s Rodri Wins World Cup and Claims Golden Ball

Manchester City's star player Rodri became a world champion after winning the World Cup with Spain. He was awadred the tournament's Golden Ball given to the best player and has completed football with no major trophy left for him to claim.

Manchester City star player Rodri can now officially call himself a World Cup Champion. The captain led Spain out against Lionel Messi and Argentina in the World Cup final and though it may have taken extra time to finally get the breakthrough, Ferran Torres scored the winner.

Spain took down the reigning champions to win just their second ever World Cup title, the last coming in 2010. 


For the third consecutive World Cup, the winning country features a Manchester City player. Benjamin Mendy was part of France’s 2018 winning squad, Julian Álvarez was key for Argentina in 2022, and now Rodri joins that list after captaining Spain to World Cup glory.

After lifting the World Cup trophy, Man City’s star player Rodri has completed football. There is no major club or international trophy left for him to claim. European Championship, UEFA Nations League, Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, the Ballon d'Or, and now the World Cup.

The Golden Ball is awarded at each World Cup to the tournament’s best player. This year the Golden Ball was awarded to Rodri, beating out Lionel Messi, who he faced in the final, and Kylian Mbappé, the Golden Boot winner. Another award to add to Rodri’s incredible cabinet.

Rodri made history with his achievements at the World Cup as he became just the seventh male player in world football to win a league title, World Cup, continental title, Champions League, and the Ballon d'Or. He is also the first ever player to do so in the Premier League.

The seven players to have completed football and won each of those trophies: Gerd Müller, Franz Beckenbauer, Rivaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldinho, Lionel Messi, and now Rodri.

Rodri also became just the 11th player to have won the World Cup, Champions League and Ballon d'Or.

Rodri is one of the most underrated footballers in the current era. When people look back at his legacy, it will be undeniable that he was one of the most consistent and complete footballers to ever play the game, even if he doesn’t get the attention he deserves for his success.

The Manchester City star made this World Cup his by winning the tournament as his nation's captain and being awarded the Golden Ball. Rodri cemented himself not only in Spanish National Team history but in World Cup history and is on top of world football.
