Manchester City played their second matchday of the UEFA Champions League group stage on Wednesday evening, facing St Polten in what would be a 90-minute nerve-racking goal fest of a match.
Manchester City have started off the 24/25 season off with quite the statement; drawing only with Arsenal, beating Paris FC with an 8-0 aggregate, surpassing defending champions of Europe, Barcelona, 2-0 and most recently claiming a late 2-1 win over Liverpool.
Starting the Champions League group off with three points to their name, Man City went into matchday two with a chance of claiming a total of six points and potentially topping the group - especially as Hammary, who beat St Potlen on day one, lost 9-0 to Barcelona.
Manchester City got off the mark give only five minutes on the clock, as Alanna Kennedy's long-range strike made it 1-0 for her team.
However, with only a few minutes until halftime left, St Polten equalised through Melanie Brunnthaler to take both sides into the break with a goal apiece.
And the beginning of the second half couldn't have started better for the Austrian side, as Kamila Dubcova turned the game around and made it 2-1 to St Polten.
While panic could have set in for the Cityzens who looked to be possibly not only missing out on three vital points but also losing their first game of the season, the squad proved once again that this season, they don't give up as Aoba Fujino tucked the ball into the back of the net and made it 2-2 with 57 minutes on the board.
And just like against Liverpool, but this time with a different scorer, Man City turned the match around in their favour with a little more than 10 minutes to go thanks to Mary Fowler.
The match ended 3-2 for Manchester City. While a tougher match than many would have predicted, City did what they had to do: win the game and take three points.
Mary Fowler's reaction to 3-2 win
"I think it says a lot about the team. It's good to win in many different ways. Sometimes you can have the lead and then be drawing and it can be easy to drop your head and feel like the other team have the momentum."
"But we've shown in the last couple of games we can be in control of that and change that. It's been really good to get a win like that with the girls.
"We play our best football when we're enjoying it. I've enjoyed it tonight (Wednesday) and I hope the other girls did."
Manchester City's next opponent in the Champions League will be Hammarby, but before then, they focus on the Women's Super League and will next take on Aston Villa.
