Nottingham Forest have accepted a £116 million bid from Manchester City for midfielder Elliot Anderson as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

Manchester City’s previous record fee was a £100 transfer for Jack Grealish, but they will set a new club record with the reported fee making Anderson their most expensive signing in the club's history.

Manchester City's first signing of a new era will be a club record.

Enzo Maresca makes a big splash with his first signing since taking charge of Manchester City following the departure of the legendary Pep Guardiola. Anderson has been a target of Maresca and City for weeks, and after multiple rounds of negotiations, the deal is nearly complete.

Anderson has steadily become one of the most promising young talents in football. The 23-year-old midfielder was key in helping Nottingham Forest achieve a 7th-place Premier League finish in the 2024/25 season and reach the Europa League semifinals last season.

Anderson did a little bit of everything in midfield last season and has the capability of playing as a holding, box-to-box, and attacking midfielder, which is a big part of why he is highly rated by Manchester City.

Manchester City are adding a midfield workhorse to their ranks.

Last season, he was the Premier League leader in duels won, touches, fouls won, and possession won, but what stands out the most from his game doesn’t show up on the stat sheet. Despite his young age, Anderson shows incredible calmness and composure on the ball and is already proven in the Premier League, which is why Man City are willing to pay a record fee to bring him to the Etihad.

Anderson will fill City’s biggest hole in their team, a versatile midfielder to support Rodri and the defensive line, control possession in midfield, and join the attack, creating dangerous opportunities for star striker Erling Haaland. Anderson will slot perfectly between Rodri and Rayan Cherki, serving as a much-needed box-to-box midfielder and be perfect for Manchester City’s possession-focused style of play.

Grealish became Manchester City’s record signing in 2021, and although he has had good moments for the club, he never lived up to the price tag they paid for him. Now, Manchester City are breaking their club record fee once again for Anderson, and will be hoping for a better outcome with his transfer.
