Manchester City vs Paris Saint-Germain match preview
At the third attempt, can Manchester City claim their first victory of this Champions League campaign? So far, Andrée Jeglertz's team have claimed a pair of draws in the league phase. First, the Sky Blues fought back from 2-0 down to draw with Bayern Munich on the road. Bunny Shaw saw a second half spot-kick saved, before Carlotta Wamser rescued a point at the end in Unterhaching.
A week later, the Citizens fell behind again, this time when Real Madrid visited England, only for Bunny Shaw to lash home an equaliser at Joie Stadium shortly after half time.
Despite being 11th in the table, it is certainly not time to panic. Far from it. Man City's fixture list was always pretty top heavy, travelling to Inter Milan and then BK Häcken after this, before concluding against competition debutants Austria Wien. Those are all very much winnable games. Thus, they are still very much in contention to finish in the top four.
On Sunday night though, the WSL champions did see their perfect record in the league come to an end. Having won six out of six to start the league season, the Sky Blues were held to a 1-1 draw by Manchester United at Leigh Sports Village, conceding an 89th minute equaliser. So, can Jeglertz's team get back to winning ways on Thursday night?
As for Paris Saint-Germain, they too are seeking to preserve their unbeaten record in this season's Champions League. Just like Man City, les Parisiennes have a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid on their record; Sakina Karchaoui converting a second half spot-kick at Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano.
Then, earlier this month, Paulo César's side demolished Oud-Heverlee Leuven 5-0 in the French capital; Naomie Feller bagging a brace, while Rasheedat Ajibade, Karchaoui and Vitória Yaya were the other scorers.
Domestically, PSG have won five out of six in the Première Ligue this season, albeit a 4-0 hammering at the hands of champions OL Lyonnes underlines the gap that exists between France's top two. Thus, given that Man City believe they are genuine Champions League contenders, they will fancy their chances of a statement victory.
Manchester City team news
Andrée Jeglertz continues to be without Beth Mead, Vivianne Miedema, Risa Shimizu and Sam Coffey due to injury. Meantime, Kerstin Casparij and Grace Clinton, who both came off the bench in Leigh on Sunday night, will be hoping to start this time.
Paris Saint-Germain team news
Paris Saint-Germain's most dangerous attacker is captain Sakina Karchaoui, who has scored in three successive Champions League matches, netting four times across these games. The visitors are though likely to be without first-choice goalkeeper Katarzyna Kiedrzynek, who got injured against Lyon, with compatriot Oliwia Szperkowska donning the gloves.
Predicted Line-ups
- Manchester City predicted lineup: Yamashita; Casparij, Rose, Greenwood, Wamser; Hasegawa, Blindkilde, Fujino, Fowler, Hemp; Shaw.
- Paris Saint-Germain predicted lineup: Szperkowska; Isabela, Samoura, Mbock, Elimbi Gilbert; Østerås, Echegini, Jourde; Karchaoui, Feller, Estella Lafontaine.
