Many Manchester City fans might want to see Rayan Cherki win the club's player of the season award. However, it must go to Erling Haaland.
Cherki is one of the most entertaining players to watch in the Premier League with his skills. The winger has also scored 10 goals with 13 assists in 46 games in all competitions this season.
Haaland is, of course, a striker, so his output will inevitably be better than someone who is playing behind him. Nevertheless, Haaland has still managed to score 35 goals with seven assists in 48 matches in all competitions this campaign.
Despite being at City since 2022, Haaland has won the club's player of the season award just once. This came in the 2022/23 campaign, when he managed a remarkable 52 goals in 53 matches. That was the season in which City won the treble by lifting the Premier League, FA Cup, and the Champions League.
Are there any other contenders for Manchester City's player of the season award?
Since then, Man City's player of the season award has gone to Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol. Foden is having a good season, so too is Antoine Semenyo, but he only joined the club from Bournemouth in January.
Other contenders for the award are Tijjani Reijnders, Jérémy Doku, and Bernardo Silva. As it is Silva's final season, he could win the award, as it would be sentimental. However, on performances alone, Haaland deserves it.
City have already won the EFL Cup this season, and have the chance of winning the FA Cup after defeating Southampton in the semi-finals. They could also pip Arsenal at the post again for the Premier League title. The treble is on, and just as Haaland won the player of the season award last time City did that, he deserves to do so again.
Of course, the season is not over, and players still have time to stake a claim for the player of the season award. However, if the campaign ended right now, the award should go to Haaland. Most players say they do not care for individual awards, as soccer is a team game. However, you know they do, especially strikers who are often very selfish.
The Ballon d'Or is the individual award that players most aspire to win. Haaland should have won it in 2023, but Lionel Messi claimed the award as it was the year after he finally won the World Cup with Argentina.
