Bayern Munich vs Manchester City match preview
Manchester City are back in the Champions League, but are not just here to make up the numbers, believing they are genuine contenders to go all the way. The Sky Blues reached the semi-finals of this competition the first two times they entered, but have gone no further than the last eight since 2018.
However, after winning last season's WSL title, Andrée Jeglertz's side are a team no one will want to face. Well, the Citizens maintained their perfect start to this season on Friday night, albeit only just. Man City were made to work hard for a 4-2 victory over Liverpool at home, the score level going into injury time, only for an own goal, followed by a Lauren Hemp clincher, to see them pinch the points.
Before this, the champions have beaten Birmingham City 3-1 and Aston Villa 4-1, suggesting their games will be high-scoring and exciting. In the Champions League, this will be Man City's first expirence of the revamped league phase.
They will welcome Real Madrid, PSG and Austria Wien to Joie Stadium, as well as facing Inter Milan and BK Häcken on the road. Thus, Jeglertz's team will surely feel they can accumulate enough points to finish in the top four.
This though will be one of their more challenging assignments. Bayern Munich have never lost any of their 15 home group stage or league phase fixtures, scoring at least twice in 13 of them, hoping to maintain that proud record. Die Roten secured a fourth successive Frauen-Bundesliga title last season, so are prioritising European success.
Bayern's best-ever Champions League campaigns have seen them reach the semi-finals, doing just that last time round, before being crushed 5-3 on aggregate by Barça Femení. To start the new season, José Barcala's side have won six out of six domestically. Bayern swatted aside VfL Wolfsburg in the DFL-Supercup, before five successive Bundesliga victories, scoring 18 times.
Thus though will be an exponentially tougher test, perhaps for both. This really is a heavyweight clash at Sportpark Unterhaching, as the champions of England and Germany meet, a clash that could go either-way, and should guarantee goals.

Jovana Damnjanović and Edna Imade both bagged braces against Köln on Saturday, so could continue to be Bayern's front two. However, former Chelsea striker Pernille Harder is expected to return in attack, with Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir partnering Canadian Vanessa Gilles at the back.
Manchester City team news
Bunny Shaw scored 21 WSL goals last season, and the Jamaican already has four to her name this season, so will continue to be the Sky Blues' primary threat. She had Betha Mead, Mary Fowler and scorer of a brace Lauren Hemp in behind against Liverpool on Friday.
However, Andrée Jeglertz also has Aoba Fujino at his disposal; Vivianne Miedema is still nursing a knee injury.
