Champions League: Best & worst case scenarios
By James Fudge
My knowledge of these teams has been tested but everyone will provide a test that City should see off. Whether that be at home or away.
No easy ties especially when you factor in the travelling, hostile atmospheres and squads. These fixtures against Pot 1 and Pot 4 certainly makes the Champions League great.
City fans will look down the list and must fancy a winter break to Copenhagen, Brugge or even Zagreb. Even a trip to Glasgow could allow fans to experience a Champions League fixture in one of the greatest atmospheres with the Old Firm likely to be wanting an English club.
Rangers went to the Europa League final last year makes them the most difficult fixture, alongside Marseille, while Celtic and Club Brugge entered the pot through their domestic league wins.
Club Brugge won the division following a weird play-off system after the normal season, while Celtic possibly took advantage over Rangers European venture potentially makes them weaker than the previously mentioned.
Maccabi Haifa and Viktoria Plzeň both overcame FK Crvena Zvezda (Red Star Belgrade) and Qarabağ FK (thankfully – no one wants to travel there) respectively in tricky ties.
Copenhagen beat Trabzonspor, the Turkish champions, keeping a clean sheet in the city where the draw and the final will take place. Dinamo Zagreb make up the group and could prove difficult.
