Manchester City are among a host of clubs in talks to sign AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, reports French outlet RMC Sport.

Regarded as one of Ligue 1’s brightest emerging talents, Aurelien Tchouameni, 22, is enjoying another solid season with AS Monaco. The central midfielder has made 31 appearances across all competitions so far this campaign, netting twice.

The Frenchman’s performances haven’t gone unnoticed, with some of Europe’s elites, including Premier League clubs such as Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United, in talks with his entourage. Real Madrid is touted as a potential destination for Tchouameni, while Barcelona have recently expressed an interest in signing him, claims RMC Sport.

Tchouameni’s contract with AS Monaco runs until 2024 but he is unlikely to leave AS Monaco in the ongoing January transfer window, although a summer move seems inevitable, the report adds.

Despite huge interest from clubs across Europe, no offer has yet been made to the Ligue 1 club. The report further states that the central midfielder is keen to join a club where he is a guaranteed starter.

Meanwhile, Manchester City seems to be setting their future plans in motion. Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin de Bruyne, and Fernandinho have been the midfield trident under Pep Guardiola over the last few years. Unfortunately, all three players are getting old. At 36, Fernandinho is at the twilight of his career and out of contract in the summer, while Gundogan and De Bruyne have entered their 30s.

Phil Foden’s rise over the last two years and the recent breakout of Cole Palmer are excellent from a long-term perspective. However, Manchester City need more to replace their old guards and in an attempt to revamp the midfield unit, they have set their sights on Aurelien Tchouameni.

Tchouameni made his France debut last year and instantly helped his country win the Nations League. He has become one of the most dominant and impactful midfielders in Ligue 1 over the last 15-18 months and the 22-year-old’s price tag will only soar if he continues to perform well in the Principality.

Given his age, profile, and the potential to become one of the very best in his position, it is logical for the Sky Blues to go all out for Tchouameni in the summer.
